The Engineering Research Office Building (EROB) in Idaho Falls is a three story office building built-to-suit for the Department of Energy (DOE). This 241,000 square foot building, a steel structure with an EIFS and glass exterior, was completed on a fast track basis in 1993. The Department of Energy imposed rigid standards for the building; as such, the building incorporates state of the art technology and continues to be a Class “A” facility.
The mechanical system utilized throughout the building received the prestigious Energy Star award from the Department of Energy for its efficiency and economical operating cost. The building utilizes a built up fan system with automated STAEFA controls. It also has an indirect cooling system that circulates the colder water in the cooling towers across coils to take advantage of the temperature changes. The building is highly energy efficient.
